Aurrency exchange: cryptocurrency backed by gold

Led design for a gold-backed crypto exchange and wallet — brand strategy, visual identity, and product design delivered as a unified system, launched in a core version.

FinanceCryptoBrandProduct

The problem

Aurrency is a crypto token developed by a bank for institutional investors. The scope covered a full set of digital products — brand strategy, exchange, and wallet — that had to work as a coherent system and feel premium and secure enough to introduce a new crypto coin to existing bank clients.

Process

  1. 01

Set the brand strategy for two connected identities — Aurrency the exchange and AURM the coin — that had to speak both to institutional investors and to crypto-native users.

  2. 02

Design the exchange around a single confident flow, mapping friction points and reducing steps for the core trading job.

  3. 03

Split the trading view into a professional version and a simplified one without candle chart and order book, so new users weren't intimidated.

  4. 04

Design wallet and KYC around the user's sense of control — the two moments where anxiety and doubt spike.

  5. 05

Deliver as a unified system across UX, visual design, dev team, and business stakeholders, and ship a fully launched core version.

Outcome

  • Product fully developed and launched in a core version.
  • Two-brand system delivered — Aurrency (exchange) and AURM (coin) — working as one product.
  • Simplified trading view lowered the entry barrier for bank clients new to crypto.

Case in detail

Challenge

Aurrency is a crypto token developed by a bank for institutional investors. The project scope covered a full set of digital products — brand strategy, exchange, and wallet — all needing to work as a coherent system. It needed to feel premium and secure to introduce what were, at the time, relatively new crypto coins to existing bank users.

Visual identity

Two brands, one product. Aurrency — the exchange — uses gold tones and a light, conservative aesthetic to speak to institutional investors. AURM — the coin itself — uses saturated, high-energy colors native to crypto. The coin can be converted to physical gold on demand, so the brand had to carry the weight of that promise visually: speaking two languages at once, the familiarity of gold as a store of value and the modernity of crypto.

Exchange

The currency exchange interaction was the product's main job. We mapped every friction point and reduced the steps to a focused, confident flow. There are two versions of the trading view: one for professional traders, which can be intimidating at first glance, and a simplified version without the candle chart, order book, and other professional instruments — so bank clients new to crypto could act without feeling out of their depth.

Wallet

Core wallet and KYC screens were designed around the user's sense of control — these are the points where many users feel anxiety and doubt. We made both processes as simple as possible, including for users new to cryptocurrency. Every step was considered: from flow length down to typography choices that feel approachable rather than technical.
